Luckily it was going to Broadway where my car was, but if it wasn't I would have had to bite the bullet and Uber/Lyft back to the Broadway station. I rode the train to see Tool at Pepsi Center and wound up waiting over 45min for the last train to come to the station. By the time you get out of the event, there's only a few trains still coming to take you back to Broadway or other stations, so when those lines get canceled you're not left with many options.

I've taken the trains to a few Avalanche games and concerts at Pepsi Center and I've almost gotten stuck at the station about 3 times because of unannounced line cancellations. I've noticed a significant decline lately, though. RTD lightrail used to be a great tool to get around downtown, go to events, and just see the city from the trains. But I did take a solid number of bus trips and I can’t say I saw anything that would make me change this review. I’m not happy to write a review that’s negative towards public transportation and its users. I was not in Denver long enough to be able to say that this is a comprehensive judgment. But I think Denver has to make it clear that buses are not shelters, and to encourage people from all walks of life to use this well designed and convenient service. I’m not trying to insult the homeless or say they don’t have as much right as I do to use the bus. It didn’t look like half of them were going anywhere, they were hanging out, staying warm, trying to sleep, etc. People seem to live on the buses with bags of their stuff strewn all over. I have never seen a bus system that looked more like welfare transportation than Denver’s local buses. I’ve ridden public buses all over North America: in Boston, New York, Philly, DC, LA, Montreal, Vancouver, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, New Orleans, and many more cities.

The bus fare is reasonable, fare collection is modern (just download their app and use your phone), schedules are fairly frequent and go late into the evening and weekends like a good transit system should. After that, I relied on local RTD buses for the rest of my stay. Arriving at the airport, I was super-impressed by the modern, heavy duty electrified rail line for the long trip to downtown Denver.
